Interlibrary Loan

The Interlibrary Loan Department locates and borrows materials from other libraries to support the research and curricular needs of OBU students and faculty as well as the information needs of community patrons. The department also loans books and photocopied articles to libraries worldwide.

ILL requests should be submitted at least two weeks in advance of needing the items.

The Interlibrary Loan Department does not fill requests for materials available at OBU or HSU.

Borrower Costs

The minimum charge per item borrowed from other libraries is $2. Patrons are also financially responsible for other fees, including lending library charges, transportation, photocopying, damage repairs, and replacement costs.  All fees are due once the item arrives, whether or not the patron picks up the item.

Borrower Requests

Borrowing materials from other institutions is a privilege that patrons must treat with respect. Lending institutions, not OBU, set due dates and other policies regarding their materials. Any renewal requests must be made at least five days in advance of the due date. Failure to follow the lender's policies jeopardizes OBU's borrowing relationship with the lender.

A fee of $10 per day per overdue item will be billed to the patron.  This fee must be paid when the overdue item is returned to the OBU library.  If an item is more than five days overdue, the patron's library borrowing privledges will be suspended until the item is returned and the late fee paid in full.

OBU patrons may submit requests for books and articles using our online form, sending an e-mail, or by completing a paper form in the library. Be sure to include your name, campus phone number, and a complete bibliographic citation of the item being requested.

Items found in OCLC FirstSearch may be requested online within these databases.

Lending Policies

We will accept requests for books and articles from other libraries by way of OCLC, ARIEL, e-mail, fax (870.245.5245), or an ALA form. We will not accept requests from other libraries for non-circulating items, including: media items, microforms, periodicals, rare books, special collections, and theses. The loan period for books is 45 days with the option to renew up to 14 days. Charges for lost or damaged items will include the replacement cost plus a $10 processing fee.
